You may find it interesting when news comes out that Nepalese leaders are riding luxury black cars. And guess what? Everything becomes expensive because they use only the best for everything including the best car wax for black cars.

Contrary to this fact, Politicians in Sweden do not ride luxury cars. This is simply because Swedish politicians live like the average citizens of the country and are not really in need of luxury cars to get to places.

Sweden – Land of Politicians Without Privileges

The report says that ministers and parliament members of the Swedish government are not driving official cars and therefore no private drivers. They get to places commuting through public transportations like buses and trains. And yes, this means they will have to brush shoulders with everybody else, especially during busy hours.

Also, Sweden’s ministers have no parliamentary immunity and are prosecuted in court just as some are facing the trail. Another interesting thing about politicians is that their office does not have a private secretary and their office is as small as 5m. Further, politicians who spend “public” money on taxi is not tolerated and thus are made to explain in a written report.

However, only the Prime Minister has the ability to drive a car through the security forces. Even politicians don’t make big money because their salary is two times higher than that of a primary school teacher. This is even lower at the municipal level because Sweden’s councils do not get paid or have no office, they work from home.

Sweden is a great country because it treats public place holders as ordinary citizens. While the rest of the world’s leaders are spending so much money investing in luxury cars, the fact that there’s one country whose leaders are just as ordinary as you and I breaks the barrier that gaps the government and its people. Much more, unnecessary costs are taken away and thus public money is spent for better purposes. Sweden has proven that it’s possible but could this be possible for other countries too?
