With the right carpeting, installation and maintenance, a quality carpet will maintain its appearance for several years. Part of maintaining a carpet is washing it and ensuring that it is thoroughly dry. If you don’t have the equipment to dry your carpet, you can employ the service of a professional carpet cleaner offering emergency carpet drying. In doing so, you not only prolong the lifespan of your carpet but also maintain its appearance.

While carpets add to the aesthetic appeal of a room, there are facts about carpets and significant benefits that aren’t known to many. This includes improving indoor safety, acoustics, safety, air quality as well as energy efficiency. With the right carpet, you will surely reap these benefits and more.

Hand Knotted Tibetan Carpets

In terms of carpet masterworks, Nepal is know for their hand knotted masterpieces. Carpet makers in Nepal are experienced and gifted wherein they still make use of ancient techniques. From tending the sheep, shearing wool to creating hand-made carpet, each and every process is truly an art in itself.

The Process

Hand knotted carpets from Nepal are made from pure wool that is washed and dried under the sun. When thoroughly dry, the washed wool is manually carded by means of pulling the wool with a skillful grip and carding it in a single direction. In doing so, this allows for a one continuous thread for the next process which is the spinning.

After the white thread is spun into a yarn, it can now be dyed into different colors. Again, the dying process is done through traditional formulations in order to get different shades of colors. But, with the aid of a spectrophotometer, each color is calibrated to achieve color fidelity.

Prior to the hand knotting process, there are other preparations to do. First, the design is drawn proportionally to the dimension or size. Next, the cotton threads are consistently and correctly tensed on the knotting chair, a process that is quite crucial so as to get the exact shape as well as measurement of the carpet. When all these are done properly, the first knot can now be tied.
